Rho (D) Immune Globulin

Rho (D) Immune Globulin is a sterile solution of globulins derived from human plasma containing antibody to the erythrocyte factor Rh? (D) antigen. Rho (D) Immune Globulin is used to prevent a Rh-negative mother from forming antibodies to fetal Rh-positive cells which may pass into the maternal circulation. The objective is to protect any subsequent child from the hazard of the haemolytic disease of the newborn. Anti-D immunoglobulin should be administered following any sensitizing episode e.g abortion, miscarriage and birth.


Adult Dose
Dose: 300 ug

Instructions: Give within 72 Hours of fullterm delivery of an Rho (D) Positive infant. Incidence can be further reduced by giving two doses, one at 28 weeks gestation, one following delivery

Contraindications
Rho (D) Immune Globulin is contraindicated in conditions like Anaphylactic reactions,Hypersensitivity to any component of product.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Rho (D) Immune Globulin, which give rise to further complications include Spleenomegaly.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Rho (D) Immune Globulin are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Fever, Myalgia, Chills, Lethargy, Local pain, Hyperthermia, Splenomegaly.
Indications
Rho (D) Immune Globulin is primarily indicated in conditions like Erythroblastosis fetalis, Immune thrombocytopenic purpura, Rhesus blood mismatch.
