Rabies Virus Vaccine

Rabies Virus Vaccine is a sterile freeze dried suspension of inactivated rabies virus, a suitable strain is grown in an approved cell culture. Rabies Virus Vaccine is used for active immunization and given as a pre-exposure prophylaxis to persons who are at a risk of contact with rabies virus. Rabies Virus Vaccine is also given as a post-exposure prophylaxis with rabies immunoglobulin.


Adult Dose
Dose: 1 ml
Single Dose: 1 (1)
Frequency: As recommended.
Route: IM
Instructions: On days 0,3,7,14 and 30. In fully imunize persons give on 0,3 and 7 days.
Neonatal
Paedriatic
Dose: 1 ml
Single Dose: 1 (1)
Frequency: As recommended.
Route: Intra Muscular
Instructions: Per Month for 3 Months
Characteristics
. It is of Semi Synthetic origin. It belongs to Rabies Prophylaxis Products and Vaccines pharmacological group.
Contraindications
Rabies Virus Vaccine is contraindicated in conditions like Febrile illness.
Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Rabies Virus Vaccine are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Fever, Erythema, Pain.
Indications
Rabies Virus Vaccine is primarily indicated in conditions like Rabies prophylaxis.
Interactions
Rabies Virus Vaccine is known to interact with other drugs, the details of drug interactions is as follows:DrugDetailsSeverityOnsetManagementRabies Immune Globulin Rabies Virus Vaccine may have delayed or diminished antibody response with immune globulin administration. Should not be administered within 3 months unless antibody titers dictate as appropriate. These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

Inj Store in refrigerator.
Warnings
Vaccination should be postponed in patients suffering from any acute illness. Immunization should not be carried out in individuals who have previously had a severe localor general reaction to the vaccine. Some vaccine contains antibiotics in small amount and should not be given to patients with history of anaphylaxis to the agent used.
