Characteristics
Pentoxifylline also known as Oxpentifylline. . It is of Synthetic origin and belongs to Xanthine. It belongs to Phosphodiesterase inhibitor pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Vasodilators pharmacological group.The Molecular Weight of Pentoxifylline is 278.30. Its pKa is 0.28.

Effects
The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Pentoxifylline include Bradycardia, AV block.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Pentoxifylline are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Nausea, Vomiting, Urticaria, Pruritus, GI distention.
Indications
Pentoxifylline is primarily indicated in conditions like Cerebrovascular disease, Circulatory system disease, Raynaud`s phenomenon, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Peripheral vascular disease, Venous leg ulcers.

Warnings
Give pentoxifylline with caution to patients with chronic occlusive arterial disease of limb because it can cause other arteriosclerotic disease. Monitor the systemic blood pressure (B.P) especially in patients receiving antihypertensive drugs.
