Cilazapril

Cilazapril is ACE inhibitor. ACE inhibitors prevent conversion of certain enzymes in the body and prevent constriction of blood vessels and lower the blood pressure and make the heart beat stronger. Cilazapril is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), heart failure and kidney disease in diabetic patients.

Characteristics
. It is of Synthetic origin and belongs to Diazepine Carboxylic Acid. It belongs to Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor-ACEI pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Antihypertensive Agents pharmacological group.The Molecular Weight of Cilazapril is 435.50. Its pKa is 6.4.
Contraindications
Cilazapril is contraindicated in conditions like Hypotension,Hypersensitivity,Ascites.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Cilazapril, which give rise to further complications include Angioneurotic edema.Cilazapril produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Hyperkalemia, Renal failure. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Cilazapril therapy.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Cilazapril include Prolonged hypotension.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Cilazapril are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Cough.
Indications
Cilazapril is primarily indicated in conditions like Essential hypertension, Gastric acid reduction during anaesthesia, Heart failure, Heart failure (adjunct), Hypertension.

Warnings
Avoid cilazapril in patients with reno-vascular disease or aortic stenosis. It should be used with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment. Treatment should start under close medical supervision. Avoid use during pregnancy.
