Carteolol (HCl)

Carteolol (HCl) is a beta-blocking agent. It slow the heart rate and reduce hypertension (high blood pressure). Carteolol (HCl) is used in the treatment of angina (chest pain), hypertension, arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) and in glucoma.

Contraindications
Carteolol (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Asthma,Cardiogenic shock,Diabetic ketoacidosis.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Carteolol (HCl), which give rise to further complications include Torsades de pointes, Corneal punctate keratitis.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Carteolol (HCl) include Bradycardia, Hypotension.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Carteolol (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Drowsiness, Insomnia, Rashes, Malaise, Eye Pain, Conjunctival hyperemia, Anisocoria, Corneal staining, Vision disturbances, Abdominal discomfort.
Indications
Carteolol (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Angina pectoris, Cardiac neurosis, Essential hypertension, Glucoma, Intraocular hypertension, Sinus tachycardia, Supraventricular extrasystole, Tachyarrythmia, Tachycardic arrhythmia, Ventricular extrasystole.

Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

Warnings
Carteolol HCl should be used with caution in patients with history of heart, kidney or liver disease, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema or other lungs disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism or any drug allergies. Before having surgery, tell the doctor or dentist about taking a beta-blocker. This drug should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or lactation.
