Orphenadrine

'The ortho-methyl analogue of antihistamine diphenhydramine, with weak antihistaminic and anticholinergic activities. It has also a mild euphoric action and induces mild exicetment in depressed patients. Chemically, it is identified as N, N-dimethyl-2-[(2-methylphenyl) phenylmethoxy]ethanamine. It is used as a skeletal muscle relaxant to relieve pain and discomfort associated with musculoskeletal injuries. It reduces voluntary muscle spasm by a central effect, and thus has a possible utility in Parkinson''s disease. It should be administered orally.'

Contraindications
Orphenadrine is contraindicated in conditions like Glucoma,Peptic ulcer,Prostatic hypertrophy,Pyloric disease.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Orphenadrine, which give rise to further complications include Hallucinations, Confusion, Hallucinations, Blindness, Chest tightness, Itching, Breathing difficulty.Orphenadrine produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Anaphylactic shock, Preciptate angle closure, Raised Intraoccular pressure, Blindness. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Orphenadrine therapy.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Orphenadrine include Tachycardia, Coma, Seizures, Dry mouth, Respiratory depression, Hallucinations, Fever, Dilated pupils, Fainting, Shock.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Orphenadrine are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Drowsiness, Constipation, Dry mouth, Blurred vision, Confusion, Hallucination, Dry mouth, Confusion.
Indications
'Orphenadrine is primarily indicated in conditions like Dystonia, Musculoskeletal pain, Parkinsonism, Parkinson''s disease, Parkinson''s disease; drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms, Vertigo, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Leg cramps.'

Risks

Warnings
Orphenadrine should be used with caution in patients with cardiac arrhythmias, coronary insufficiency or tachycardia. Periodically monitor blood, urine and liver function values. It should be used with caution (if contain sulfites) in patients of asthma because may cause allergic reaction (including hives, itching, wheezing or anaphylaxis).
