Interactions
Magnesium Oxides and Hydroxides is known to interact with other drugs, the details of drug interactions is as follows:DrugDetailsSeverityOnsetManagementCalcium GluconateChenodeoxycholic AcidChlorpropamideCiprofloxacinMagnesium hydroxides and aluminium hydroxide antacids, iron, calcium, zinc containing products impair absorption of ciprofloxacin.DiflunisalDigoxinMagnesium hydroxide may decrease the serum concentration of digoxin.MinorNo action required.DoxycyclineFluorideIron SaltsIsoniazidMeclofenamateConcomitant administration of magnesium hydroxides does not interfere with absorption of meclofenamate sodium.MoxifloxacinMagnesium and aluminium hydroxide containing antacids decrease the oral absorption of moxifloxacin.MycophenolateConcurrent use decrease the absorption of mycophenolate.NaproxenNitrofurantoinPhenoxymethylpenicillin (K)Phenylbutazone Prednisolone and PrednisonePropranolol (HCl)Risedronate (Na)Magnesium Oxides and Hydroxides will interfere with the absorption of Risedronate (Na).Sodium ClodronateSodium Polystyrene SulphonateSTRONTIUM RANELATEA 20-25% decrease in the extent of oral strontium ranelate absorption is documented with aluminium/magnesium hydroxide, when given simultaneously or two hours before strontium. Absorption was negligibly affected with administration of the antacid two hours after strontiumMinorAdminister antacids two hours after strontium ranelate. Strontium ranelate is best taken at bedtime.Strontium-89 ChlorideSaturation of bone-binding sites by calcium may reduce uptake of strontium-89 chloride. ModerateSulfolaxSulfolax docusate may increase the toxicity of Magnesium Oxides and Hydroxides by increasing intestinal absorption of the drug. ModerateConcurrent use should be avoided.Suxamethonium (Cl)Suxamethonium (Cl)TadalafilSimultaneous administration of an antacid magnesium hydroxide and tadalafil reduced the apparent rate of absorption of tadalafil without altering exposure (AUC) to tadalafil.Tetracycline (HCl)Thiamine HCl (Vitamin B1)Antacids may lower thiamin levels in the body by decreasing absorption and increasing excretion or metabolism.Tubocurarine (Cl) These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
