Characteristics
Levorphanol also known as Phenonthrence. . It is of Synthetic origin and belongs to Opioid. It belongs to OPIATE agonist pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Analgesic pharmacological group.The Molecular Weight of Levorphanol is 443.50. Its pKa is 8.2.
Contraindications
Levorphanol is contraindicated in conditions like Depression,Heart failure,Hypovolaemia,Respiratory disease,Hypersensitivity.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Levorphanol, which give rise to further complications include Hypotension, Hypotension, Urinary retention, Rhabdomyolysis, Dizziness, Respiratory depression, Cough, Urinary retention.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Levorphanol include Nausea, Cardiac arrhythmias, Urinary retention, Emesis, Hyperventilation, Bradypnea, Airway obstruction, Urticaria.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Levorphanol are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Vomiting, Constipation, Rashes, Hypotension, Nausea and vomiting, Faintness, faintness, Circulatory failure.
Indications
Levorphanol is primarily indicated in conditions like Adjunct to anesthesia, As a premedicant, Pain, Surgical anaesthesia.

Risks

Warnings
Levorphanol should be used with caution in patients with central nervous system (CNS) depression, convulsive disorder, ulcerative colitis, fever, recent gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, bradyarrhythmias, supraventricular tachycardia, pulmonary diseases. Patients should exercise caution while driving or performing tasks requiring alertness because it may produce drowsiness. Cautions should be taken in allergic patients. Alcohol should be avoided while using levorphanol.
