Characteristics
Hyoscine (Butylbromide) also known as Butylscopalamine bromide. Hyoscine is the derivative of Hyoscine (Butylbromide). It is of Natural origin and belongs to Tropane Alkaloid. It belongs to Cholinergic muscarinic antagonist pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Gastrointestinal Anticholinergics/Antispasmodics pharmacological group.The Molecular Weight of Hyoscine (Butylbromide) is 440.40. Its pKa is 8.1.
Contraindications
Hyoscine (Butylbromide) is contraindicated in conditions like Glucoma,Prostatic hypertrophy,Paralytic ileus.
Effects
Hyoscine (Butylbromide) produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Seizures, Hallucination, Transient arrhythmias. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Hyoscine (Butylbromide) therapy.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Hyoscine (Butylbromide) include Coma, Blurred vision, Hallucinations, Dry flushed skin, Delirium, Ataxia, Restlessness, Rapid & irregular pulse, Decreased salivary secretions, Increased heart rate, Loss of accomodation, Flushed skin, scarlet, weak pulse, Excitement.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Hyoscine (Butylbromide) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Thirst, Headache, Drowsiness, Fatigue, Restlessness, Palpitation, Tachycardia, Constipation, Dry mouth, Nausea and vomiting, Blurring of vision, Mydriasis, Loss of accomodation, Transient bradycardia, Delirium, Swallowing difficulties, Urinary RetentionX, Cycloplegia, Dry mouth, dizziness.
Indications
Hyoscine (Butylbromide) is primarily indicated in conditions like Acute spasm and spasm in diagnostic procedures, Aspiration prophylaxis, Bradycardia, Cycloplegia induction, Drying secretions, amnesia, Iritis, Irritable bowel syndrome, Motion sickness, Mydriasis induction, Reduction of excessive respiratory secretions (death rattle) in palliative care, Smooth muscle spasm, Symptomatic relief of GI-disorders, The pain of bowel colic in palliative care, Uveitis, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Premedication in anaesthesia.

Warnings
Hyoscine butylbromide should be used with caution in patients with any allergy (especially drug allergies), glaucoma (narrow-angle), liver or kidney disease or severe narrowing of the stomach, intestines or bladder. Limit alcohol intake, as it may worsen certain side effects of this medication. Since this drug may cause dizziness, drowsiness and blurred vision, so use with caution while driving or performing tasks requiring alertness. Protect eyes from bright light and wear UVA/UVB sunglasses while eyes are dilated. It should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. The elderly and children are particularly sensitive to the side effects of this drug, therefore caution is advised with use of this drug. Should be use with caution in Gerd ulcerative clitis close angleglaucoma to pyrexia.
