Gliclazide

Gliclazide is a sulfonyl urea compound. Gliclazide is oral hypoglycemic agent and effective in the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes. Gliclazide is used in conjunction with proper diet and exercise to decrease blood sugar levels. It also reduces the cardiovascular complications of diabetic patient.

Characteristics
Gliclazide also known as Glicazida. . It is of Synthetic origin and belongs to Sulphonyl Urea. It belongs to Potassium Channel (ATP sensitive) antagonist pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Antidiabetic Agent, Sulfonylurea pharmacological group.The Molecular Weight of Gliclazide is 323.40. Its pKa is 5.8.
Contraindications
Gliclazide is contraindicated in conditions like Iddm,Ketosis.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Gliclazide, which give rise to further complications include GI symptoms, Dermatological reactions, Hypoglycemia.Gliclazide produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Hypoglycemia, Hypoglycemia, Hypoglycemia, Brain damage. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Gliclazide therapy.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Gliclazide include Hypoglycemia, Cerebral edema.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Gliclazide are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Skin rashes, GI upset, Skin rashes, dizziness.
Indications
Gliclazide is primarily indicated in conditions like Diabetes mellitus type-ii.
