Interactions
Fluvoxamine (Maleate) is known to interact with other drugs, the details of drug interactions is as follows:DrugDetailsSeverityOnsetManagementAlprazolamAminophyllineAmitriptyline (HCl)Amitriptyline metabolism is decrease while plasma concentration is increased by flovoxamine which inhibit multiple hepatic microsomal enzymes.MajorCoadministration of these two drugs are avoided.AnagrelideAnagrelide is metabolized at least in part by CYP1A2. It is known that CYP1A2 is inhibited by several medicinal products, and such medicinal products could theoretically adversely influence the clearance of anagrelide.AstemizoleFluvoxamine inhibits the metabolism of astemizole results in increased concentration may lead to severe cardiotoxicity.MajorIf fluvoxamine given in high doses so caution is recommended.CarbamazepinePlasma concentration of Carbamazepine increased by Fluvoxamine.MajorClomipramine (HCl)ClozapineFluvoxamine increases the serum level of clozapine by inhibiting its metabolism results in increased toxicity.ModerateAdjust the dose if necessary. Closely monitor for altered efficacy and safety.DiazepamMetoprolol (Tartrate)Fluvoxamine may potentiate the pharmacological effect of metoprolol by inhibiting metabolic clearence result in development of bradycardia, hypotension, and complete heart block.ModerateClosely monitor the cardiac function of patient and adjust the dose of metoprolol accordingly.Phenytoin (Na)PomalidomidePomalidomide exposure is increased when co-administered with a strong CYP1A2 inhibitor (fluvoxamine)Avoid co-administration, if medically necessary Pomalidomide dose should be reduced by 50%.Propranolol (HCl)RoflumilastRoflumilast interacts with CYP1A2 INHIBITOR like fluvoxamine where it result in an 59% increase in the roflumilast PDE4 inhibitory effect.Ropivacaine (HCl Monohydrate)SumatriptanConcomitant use of these drugs potentiate the risk of serotonin syndrome due to hyperstimulation of brain stem 5-HT1A receptor.MajorClosely monitor the sign and symptoms of serotonin syndromeTacrine (HCl)TheophyllineWarfarin (Na)Zolmitriptan These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
