Dinoprost

Dinoprost is a natural oxytocic protaglandin. Dinoprost is a synthetic derivative of itone in which the O atom in 9-position of the latter is reduced to OH. Dinoprost is effective as an abortifacient i.e., causing abortion.

Characteristics
Dinoprost also known as Prostaglandin F2Alfa. . It is of Natural origin and belongs to PG-Heptenoic Acid. It belongs to PGF-II alpha-agonist pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Prostaglandin pharmacological group.The Molecular Weight of Dinoprost is 354.50. Its pKa is 5.6.
Contraindications
Dinoprost is contraindicated in conditions like Asthma,Glucoma,Pelvic infections.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Dinoprost, which give rise to further complications include Intravascular coagulation.Dinoprost produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Cardiogenic collapse. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Dinoprost therapy.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Dinoprost include Collapse, Severe GI symptoms.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Dinoprost are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Flushing, Pyrexia, Bronchospasm, Shivering, Wheezing, dizziness, bronchoconstriction.
Indications
Dinoprost is primarily indicated in conditions like Abortion, Haemorrhage, Hydatidiform mole, Labor induction.

Risks

Warnings
Dinoprost should be used with caution in patients with medical history, including any allergy (especially drug allergy), pelvic infections, heart, lungs, kidney or liver diseases, asthma, high or low blood pressure, anemia, diabetes, seizure disorder, infections in the vaginal area. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy or lactation.
