Insulin Lispro Protamine

'Insulin lispro protamine suspension (NPL component) is a suspension of crystals produced from combining insulin lispro and protamine sulfate under appropriate conditions for crystal formation. This medication is used to control blood sugar in patients with diabetes mellitus. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness and circulation problems. It promotes glucose transport, which stimulates carbohydrate metabolism in skeletal and cardiac muscle and adipose tissue. Also promotes phosphorylation of glucose in liver, where it''s converted to glycogen. Directly affects fat and protein metabolism, stimulates protein synthesis, inhibits release of free fatty acids, and indirectly decreases phosphate and potassium. It is available in premixed form with insulin lispro in 75/25 and 50/50 ratio.'
