Interactions
Phenobarbital Sodium is known to interact with other drugs, the details of drug interactions is as follows:DrugDetailsSeverityOnsetManagementAfatinibmay decrease the level of afatinibuse alternative or increase daily dose of afatinibAlbendazoleAlcoholAlcohol enhances effects of phenobarbital sodium.ArtesunateConcurrent use may decrease artesunate serum concentrations. Avoid co-administration if possible. Monitor closely for therapeutic efficacy. Artesunate dose may need to be increased with co-administration.CalciferolCanagliflozinco administration may decrease the efficacy of canagliflozinincrease dose to 300 mg once dailyconjugated Estrogens/Bazedoxifenemay reduce plasma concentrations of estrogens, possibly resulting in a decrease in therapeutic effects monitor closelyDabrafenibStrong CYP3A4 inducers may decrease levels of dabrafenibConsider alternate therapyDisopyramideDolutegravirdecreased level of dolutegravircoadministration should be avoidedDoxicycline HyclateIloprostIrinotecan (HCl Trihydrate)MestranolMontelukastPhenobarbital increases the blood concentration of montelukast by about 40%.Therefore, the dose of montelukast may need to be reduced when given concurrently with phenobarbital. NabiloneConcurrent use may increase the efficacy of nabilone.Concurrent use should be avoided, or you may need dosage adjustments or special tests during treatment.PemolineEffects may be additive. Use caution when pemoline is used with other CNS acting medicationsPhenytoin (Na)Phenytoin causes rise in plasma concentration of phenobarbital sodium.Potassium ClorazepateEffects of Potassium Clorazepate may be potentiated by Phenobarbital Sodium.Roflumilastroflumilast interacts with CPY450 inducers like phenobarbital, carbamezapine, phenytonin which reduce its 60% inhibitory effect on PDE4.reduce efficacySalicylamidePhenobarbital Sodium may decrease the efficacy of Salicylamide.Sorafenibay also increase metabolism of sorafenib and thus decrease sorafenib concentrations.SunitinibMay decrease sunitinib concentrations.Thiamine HCl (Vitamin B1)Barbiturates may lower thiamin levels in the body by decreasing absorption and increasing excretion or metabolism.Valproic AcidValproic acid causes rise in plasma concentration of Phenobarbital sodium.VORICONAZOLEPhenobarbital may reduce serum concentrations and efficacy of voriconazole. Concomitant voriconazole and long-acting barbiturates therapy is contraindicated.Vortioxetinephenobarbital increases level of vrtioxetine increase dose of vortioxetine when coadministered These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
