Mephentermine

A sympathomimetic agent with mainly indirect effects on adrenergic receptors. .It has alpha and beta adrenergic activity and a slight stimulating effect on CNS. It has an ionotropic effect on heart. It is used to maintain blood pressure in hypotensive states, for example, following spinal anesthesia. Although the central stimulant effects of mephentermine are much less than those of amphetamine, its use may lead to amphetamine-type dependence.

CNS stimulants often have peripheral sympathetic activity and can increase blood pressure and heart rate, thus they may have additive effects with pressor agents.ModerateCaution is advised if CNS stimulants are used with pressor agents. Pulse and blood pressure should be closely monitored. These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
