BISMUTH SUBSALICYLATE (Pepto-Bismol®, Bismatrol®) relieves the symptoms of diarrhea (without a fever), upset stomach, heartburn, acid indigestion, and nausea


Adult Dose
Dose: 2 tablespoon
Single Dose: 2 (2)
Frequency: As recommended.
Route: oral
Instructions: donot take more than 16 tablespoon in a day.

Characteristics
. The Molecular Weight of Bismuth Subsalicylates is 362.11.
Contraindications
Bismuth Subsalicylates is contraindicated in conditions like Chickenpox infection,Influenza.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Bismuth Subsalicylates, which give rise to further complications include Numbness, Mental disturbances, Slurred speech.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Bismuth Subsalicylates include Constipation, Confusion, Dizziness, Anxiety.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Bismuth Subsalicylates are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Nausea, Vomiting, Black stool.
Indications
Bismuth Subsalicylates is primarily indicated in conditions like Diarrhoea, Heart burn, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Indigestion, Upset stomach.
Interactions

Interfrence
Urinanalysis SGPT level disturbance.
Risks
Drug should not be given to patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Storage
Suspensions, Tabs Store in a well closed container, Below 40°C. Protect from Sunlight and Heat.
Warnings
Take cautions for allergic patients. Avoid sunlight contact as Bismuth subsalicylates may increase sensitivity towards sunlight. Donot use if patient is diabetic.
