Lymphocyte Immune Globulin

Lymphocyte immune globulin is a drug used to suppress the immune system. Lymphocyte immune globulin is also known by the generic name anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) and the brand names Atgam and Thymoglobulin. Atgam first received FDA approval in 1981 and Thymoglobulin in 1999. As of 2001, no generic preparations are available.

Contraindications
Lymphocyte Immune Globulin is contraindicated in conditions like Systemic infections.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Lymphocyte Immune Globulin, which give rise to further complications include Allergic reactions, Confusion, Seizures, Dizziness, Chest pain, Anaphylaxis.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Lymphocyte Immune Globulin are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Fever, Abdominal pain, Peripheral edema, Chills, Urticaria, Hypotension, Joint pain, Hypertension, Muscle pain, Pruritis, Dyspnoea, Rash.
Indications
'Lymphocyte Immune Globulin is primarily indicated in conditions like Aplastic anemia, Rejection of organ transplants, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Non-hodgkin''s lymphoma, Non-hodgkin''s lymphoma.'

Risks
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Storage
Store in refrigerator. Do not Freeze.
Warnings
Watch patients carefully for signs of leukopenia,thrombocytopenia or concurrent infections. Dilution of it is not recommended in dextrose injection. Only physicians experienced in immunosuppressive therapy in treatment of renal transplant or aplastic anemia patients should use ATGAM.
