Ioxilan is an iodinated nonionic monomeric contrast medium used for various radiographic procedures including enhancement of computed tomography (). It is given by injection.

Contraindications
Ioxilan is contraindicated in conditions like Hypersensitivity to any component of product.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Ioxilan, which give rise to further complications include Myocardial infarction.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Ioxilan include Bradycardia, Hypotension, Diarrhea, Angina pectoris.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Ioxilan are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Diarrhea, Fever, Chills, Nausea and vomiting.
Indications
Ioxilan is primarily indicated in conditions like Cerebral angiography, Cerebral arteriography, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Computed tomography scans.
Interactions
Ioxilan is known to interact with other drugs, the details of drug interactions is as follows:DrugDetailsSeverityOnsetManagementIpodateRenal toxicity has been reported in a few patients with liver dysfunction who were given an oral cholecystographic agent followed by intravenous contrast agents. The mechanism of interaction has not been described. ModerateAdministration of any intravascular contrast agent should be deferred for 48 hours in patients with hepatic or biliary disorders who have recently received an oral cholecystographic contrast agent. These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.

Drug should not be given to Paediatrics.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Storage
Store at room temperature, Between 15°C-30°C. Freezing is recommended. Protect from Sunlight.
Warnings
Caution must be exercised in patients with severely impaired renal function, combined renal and hepatic disease, combined renal and cardiac disease, severe thyrotoxicosis, myelomatosis, or anuria, particularly when large doses are administered. Patients receiving contrast agents, and especially those who are medically unstable, must be closely supervised. Diagnostic procedures which involve the use of iodinated intravascular contrast agents should be carried out under the direction of personnel skilled and experienced in the particular procedure to be performed. A fully equipped emergency cart, or equivalent supplies and equipment, and personnel competent in recognizing and treating adverse reactions of all types should always be available. Since severe delayed reactions have been known to occur, emergency facilities and competent personnel should be available for at least 30 to 60 minutes after administration.
