Adefovir Dipivoxil

Chlorquinaldol, 5,7-dichloro-2-methyl-8-hydroxyquinoline, has antibacterial, antifungal and amoebicidal activity with antieczematic and antipruritic properties; used topically in the treatment of cutaneous and vaginal infections. It is a similar agent to clioquinol.

Instructions: Significantly increased drug exposures were seen when Adefovir dipivoxil was administered to adult patients with renal impairment. Therefore, the dosing interval of Adefovir dipivoxil should be adjusted in adult patients with baseline creatinine clearance

Characteristics
Adefovir Dipivoxil also known as Adefovir, Adefovir, Adefovir. . It is of Synthetic origin. It belongs to DNA polymerase inhibitor pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action. The Molecular Weight of Adefovir Dipivoxil is 501.48.
Contraindications

Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Adefovir Dipivoxil, which give rise to further complications include Renal failure.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Adefovir Dipivoxil are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Dyspepsia, Asthenia, Nausea and vomiting, Hypophosphatemia, dyspepsia.
Indications
Adefovir Dipivoxil is primarily indicated in conditions like Viral hepatitis.

Warnings
Patients should be monitored closely for adverse events when Adefovir dipivoxil is co-administered with drugs that are excreted renally or with other drugs known to affect renal function. Hepatic function should be monitored at repeated intervals with both clinical and laboratory follow-up for at least several months in patients who discontinue Adefovir dipivoxil. It is important to monitor renal function for all patients during treatment. Caution should be exercised when prescribing Adefovir dipivoxil to adolescents with underlying renal dysfunction, and renal function in these patients should be closely monitored. Particular caution should be exercised when administering nucleoside analogs to any patient with known risk factors for liver disease. Obtaining HIV antibody testing prior to starting Adefovir dipivoxil is important.
