Rizatriptan

Rizatriptan is a 5 -HT 1 agonist, used in the treatment of an acute migraine attack.

Instructions: The maximum daily dose of rizatriptan is 30 mg each day. If other medications are taken in addition to rizatriptan, the maximum daily dosage may be lower.

Contraindications
Rizatriptan is contraindicated in conditions like Peripheral vascular disease,Ischaemic heart disease,Cerebrovascular accident,Uncontrolled hypertension.
Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Rizatriptan are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Vertigo, Thirst, Fatigue, Myalgia, Dyspnea, Palpitation, Tachycardia, Insomnia, Nervousness, Sweating, Blurred vision, Urticaria, Pruritus, Dyspepsia, Flushing, Tremor, Asthenia, Tingling, Sensation of warmth, Heaviness.
Indications
'Rizatriptan is primarily indicated in conditions like Long-term treatment of reflux oesophagitis, Mild to moderate dementia in alzheimer''s disease.'
Interactions

Interfrence
Risks
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and Cardiac / Hypertensive Patients.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Storage
Tabs Store in a well closed container, at room temperature, Between 15°C-30°C. Protect from Sunlight.
Warnings
5HT1 agonists (e.g Rizatriptan) should be used with caution in conditions which predispose to coronary artery disease (pre-existing cardiac disease), pregnancy and breast-feeding. 5HT1 agonists are recommended as monotherapy and should not be taken concurrently with other acute migraine therapies. Little information is available on the use of these drugs in the elderly (over 65 year). Caution is also required in mild or moderate hepatic impairment and renal impairment; not to be taken until 24 hours after stopping ergotamine-type prepration (ergotamine-type prepration not to be taken until 6 hours after Rizatriptan)
