Tenecteplase

A fibrinolytic drug, which acts by activating plasminogen to form plasmin. It is used in the treatment of myocradial infarction. It is given as a bolus injection.

Characteristics
It belongs to Plasminogen Activator pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Thrombolytic Agent pharmacological group.
Contraindications
Tenecteplase is contraindicated in conditions like Coma,Trauma,Adjunct in the treatment of P. Vivax and P. Ovale malaria (eradication of liver stages),Adjunct to quinine in the treatment of P. Falciparum malaria,Adjunct to quinine in the treatment of falciparum malaria,Surgery,Bleeding diathesis,Oesophageal varices,Pain management,General dose,Resistant dermatophyte infections of skin or finger nails (not toe nails).
Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Tenecteplase are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Constipation, Abdominal pain, Cough, Bruising, Shortening of breath, Bleeding, Black stool.
Indications
Tenecteplase is primarily indicated in conditions like Acute myocardial infarction.

Warnings
Tenecteplase can cause bleeding that usually is not serious. However, serious bleeding may occur in some people. To help prevent serious bleeding, carefully follow any instructions given by your health care professional. Also, move around and be handled as little as possible, and do not get out of bed on your own, unless your health care professional tells you it is all right to do so.
