Certoparin

Certoparin is a low molecular weight heparin anticoaggulant. Certoparin is given by SC (subcutaneous) injection in the prevention of postoperative venous thrombo-embolism.

Frequency: As recommended.
Route: SC
Instructions: 1-2 hrs before the procedure, followed by 3000 Units daily for 7 to 10 days.

Characteristics
Certoparina sodica is the derivative of Certoparin. It is of Semi Synthetic origin and belongs to anti-coagulant (low Mol weight heparin). It belongs to Anticoagulants pharmacological group.Its pKa is 2.4.
Contraindications
Certoparin is contraindicated in conditions like Thrombocytopenia,Bleeding.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Certoparin, which give rise to further complications include Alopecia, Osteoporosis.Certoparin produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Pulmonary embolism. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Certoparin therapy.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Certoparin are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Thrombocytopenia, Hypersensitivity reactions.
Indications
Certoparin is primarily indicated in conditions like Prevention of thromboembolism.

Warnings
Certoparin should not be given to patients at serious risk of haemmorhage; patients at risk of include those with haemorrhagic blood disorders, thrombocytopenia, peptic ulcers, CVS disorders, bacterial endocarditis, severe hypertension, oesophageal varices, or patients who have recently undergone surgery at sites where haemorrhage would be at especisl risk. Severe kidney and liver impairment.
