Rosiglitazone (Maleate)

Rosiglitazone (Maleate) is an oral hypoglycaemic agent belongs to thiazolidinedione class, used to treat type II (non-insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus. It reduces peripheral insulin resistance, leading to a reduction of blood-glucose concentration. Rosiglitazone (Maleate) is used either alone or in combination with metformin or with sulfonyl urea.


Adult Dose
Dose: 4 mg
Single Dose: 4 (4)
Frequency: 24 hourly
Route: PO
Instructions: For patients who respond inadequately following 12 weeks of treatment, the dose may be increased to 8 mg administered as single dose or in divided doses twice daily

Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Rosiglitazone (Maleate), which give rise to further complications include Congestive heart failure, Fluid retension, Oedema, Hypoglycemia, Anaemia, Hypercholesterolemia, Cardiac hypertrophy.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Rosiglitazone (Maleate) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Weight gain.
Indications
Rosiglitazone (Maleate) is primarily indicated in conditions like NIDDM, Type II diabetes mellitus.
