Itopride (HCl)

Itopride (HCl) is a substituted benzamide, which is used for its prokinetic and antiemetic properties. The actions, uses and adverse effects similar to that of metaclopramide.


Adult Dose
Dose: 50 mg

Instructions: Should be taken before meal.

Contraindications

Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Itopride (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Diarrhea, Constipation, Redness, Tremor, Thrombocytopenia, Leucopenia.
Indications
Itopride (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Dyspepsia, Gastro-esophageal reflux disease, Nausea and vomiting, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Anorexia, Heart burn.

Risks
Drug should not be given to Paediatrics, Pregnant Mothers, patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, patients suffering from Liver Malfunction, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Storage
Store Between 15°C-30°C.
Warnings
Itopride should be used with special caution in the young and the elderly. Little information is available at this time regarding the safe use of itopride during pregnancy.
