Tuberculin PPD

A sterile preparation obtained by precipitation from the heat treated products of growth and lysis of one or more strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and/or M.bovis. Tuberculins are used to test for hypersensitivity to tuberculo-proteins. Administration of tuberculin for sensitivity testing is by intradermal injection or by multiple-puncture devices. A person showing sensitivity to tuberculin is considered to have been infected with the tubercle bacillus
