Quinagolide (HCl)

Quinagolide (HCl) is an non-ergot dopamine receptor antagonist, the actions and uses are similar to those of bromocriptine. Quinagolide (HCl) is used in the treatment of such disorders associated with hyperprolactinaemia.

Route: PO
Instructions: Single patients may require daily doses of 300 micrograms or higher. In such cases, the daily dosage may be increased in steps of 75 micrograms to 150 micrograms at intervals not shorter than 4 weeks until satisfactory therapeutic effectiveness is achieved or reduced tolerability limits further increases in the dose.

Contraindications

Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Quinagolide (HCl), which give rise to further complications include Hypomania, Sexual disinhibition, Psychiatric disease.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Quinagolide (HCl) include Bradycardia, Hypotension, Nausea, Vomiting, Drowsiness, Collapse, Dizziness, Headache, Anxiety.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Quinagolide (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, Anorexia, Diarrhea, Constipation, Insomnia, Abdominal pain, Weight LossX, Hypotension, Flushing, Nasal congestion.
Indications
Quinagolide (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Adjuvant therapy in acromegaly, Hyperprolactinaemia.

Warnings
It should be used cautiously in patients with history of heart attack, angina , liver or kidney disease, psychiatric illness or circulation problems in the fingers in cold weather. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. This drug is not recommended during lactation.
