Esmolol

Esmolol is a cardioselective short-acting beta-blocker. Esmolol is administered via IV-infusion and due to ultra short duration of action, is useful for acute control of hypertension or certain supraventricular arrhythmias. Esmolol is also used to control hypertension and tachycardia in perioperative, postoperative or emergency settings.

Contraindications
Esmolol is contraindicated in conditions like Diabetes mellitus,Cardiogenic shock,Bronchospasm,Heart block,Hypotension,Sinus bradycardia.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Esmolol, which give rise to further complications include Hypotension, Hypotension.Esmolol produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Bradycardia. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Esmolol therapy.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Esmolol include Bradycardia, Hypotension, Drowsiness, Loss of conciousness.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Esmolol are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Inflammation, Weakness, Dizziness, Irritability, Dyspnea, Necrosis, Hypotension, Diaphoresis, Thrombophlebitis, Paresthesias, Peripheral ischemia, dizziness.
Indications
'Esmolol is primarily indicated in conditions like Adjunct to prevent relapse, Atrial fibrillation, Atrial flutter, Intraoperative tachycardia and/or hypertension, Mild to moderate dementia in alzheimer''s disease, Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, Postoperative tachycardia and/or hypertension, Short-term treatment of supraventricular arrhythmias, Tobacco amblyopia and leber''s optic atrophy.'

Risks
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, patients suffering from Kidney dysfunction, Geriatrics, and Neonates.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.
Storage
Inj Store Below 25°C. Inj (reconstituted soln) Store in refrigerator. Use within 24 hrs if kept at room temperature.
Warnings
It should be use with caution in diabetic patients and patients with kidney or liver disease.
