Melitracen (HCl)

Melitracen (HCl) is a tricyclic antidepressant with actions and effects similar to amitriptyline.Melitracen (HCl) is given orally in the treatment of depression. It should be withdrawn gradually to reduce the risk of withdrawl symptoms.


Adult Dose
Dose: 25 mg
Single Dose: 25 (25)
Frequency: 12 hourly
Route: PO
Instructions: Gradually increased to 225 mg if necessary. Frequency may be increased upto 3 times/day if needed.

Contraindications
Melitracen (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Bone marrow depression,Cardiovascular disease,Cardiac disease,Pregnancy,Comatose states.
Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Melitracen (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Drowsiness, Nausea, Constipation, Dry mouth, Blurred vision, Weight gain.
Indications
Melitracen (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Anxiety, Asthenia, Depression, gastro-intestinal disorders associated with anxiety and agitation.

Interfrence
Risks
Drug should not be given to Pregnant Mothers, and Cardiac / Hypertensive Patients.If prescribing authority justifies the benefits of the drug against the possible damages he/she should reevaluate them and consult the reference material and previous studies.

Should be taken with precaution in Parkinsonism, renal, hepatic or CV disease, pregnancy, lactation, elderly, debilitated, respiratory disorders, diabetes, phaeochromocytoma, epilepsy, glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic hypertrophy.
