Calcitonin

Calcitonin is a single chain peptide hormone with 32 amino acids, secreted by the thyroid gland. A disulfide bond between positions 1 and 7 is essential for its biologic activity. It plays an important role in calcium and bone metabolism, inhibits bone resorption and acts as an antagonist to parathyroid hormone.

Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Calcitonin, which give rise to further complications include Vomiting, Rhinitis, Rhinitis, Abdominal pain, Hypersensitivity reactions, Oedema, Cough, Anaphylactic reactions, Diuresis, Throat Irritation, Musculoskeletal pain, Taste disturbance.The signs and symptoms that are produced after the acute overdosage of Calcitonin include Transient vomiting.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Calcitonin are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Diarrhea, Fever, Rashes, Itching, Flushing, Loss of appetite, dizziness, rashes.
Indications

Warnings
Skin testing should be considered before treating with calcitonin, especially for patients with susceptible sensitivity.
