Lercanidipine (HCl)

Lercanidipine (HCl) is a long acting calcium channel antagonistwith actions similar to Nifedipine. Used as a once-daily treatment for hypertension.it exerts its antihypertensive effect by inhibiting the influx of extracellular calcium across the cell membranes of myocardial and vascular smooth muscle. Serum calcium levels remain unchanged.

Characteristics
belongs to Dihydropyridine. It belongs to Calcium L-channel antagonist pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action. The Molecular Weight of Lercanidipine (HCl) is 648.20.

Effects
The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Lercanidipine (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Dizziness, Headache, Fatigue, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Palpitation, Tachycardia, Peripheral edema, Hypotension, Flushing, Asthenia, Epigastric pain, GI disturbance, dizziness.
Indications
Lercanidipine (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Hypertension, Mild to moderate hypertension.

Lercandipine should be used with caution in pts.with kidney or liver disease.Consider decrease in dose of calcium channel blockers & monitor drug response in cirrhosis pts.
