Flunarizine (HCl)

Flunarizine (HCl) is a sedating antihistamine and difluorinated derivative of cinnarizine. Flunarizine (HCl) is investigational calcium channel blocker. It has been reported in preliminary trials to effectively reduce the severity of the acute attack of migraine and prevent recurrences.

Characteristics
. It is of Synthetic origin and belongs to Piperazine. It belongs to Calcium L-channel antagonist pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Vasodilators pharmacological group.The Molecular Weight of Flunarizine (HCl) is 477.40. Its pKa is 7.7.
Contraindications
Flunarizine (HCl) is contraindicated in conditions like Depressive illness,Symptomatic parkinsonism,Hypersensitivity to the drug.
Effects
Flunarizine (HCl) produces potentially life-threatening effects which include Tremour, Rigidity, Orofacial dyskineria, Blady kinesia. which are responsible for the discontinuation of Flunarizine (HCl) therapy.The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Flunarizine (HCl) are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Drowsiness, Nausea, Diarrhea, Dry mouth, Asthenia, Heart burn, Dry mouth.
Indications
Flunarizine (HCl) is primarily indicated in conditions like Dizziness, Migraine prophylaxis, Tinnitus, Vertigo.

Flunarizine should be used with caution in patients with liver impairment, dose should be reduced in patients with renal impairment. Avoid use in young children and use with caution in elderly patients.
