Characteristics
. It is of Synthetic origin and belongs to Azasteroid. It belongs to Androgen antagonist pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Anti Allergic Agent pharmacological group.The Molecular Weight of Finasteride is 372.50. It is weakly acidic drug and Its pKa is 15.91.
Contraindications
Finasteride is contraindicated in conditions like Obstructive uropathy.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Finasteride, which give rise to further complications include Impotence, Decreased libido, Decreased ejaculation, Testicular pain, Tenderness & Enlargement of breast.
Indications
Finasteride is primarily indicated in conditions like Alopecia, Benign prostatic hyperplasia, Male-pattern baldness in men, Prostatic cancer, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Hair loss.

Warnings
Finasteride should be used with caution in patients with liver disease, prostate cancer, urinary tract disease and of any drug allergies. Finasteride should not be used in women or children. The drug can be absorbed through the skin. If the film coating of the tablet has been broken or the tablet crushed, it should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant. Any contact with finasteride by a developing male fetus could result in abnormalities of the external genitalia. Finasteride should not be used during pregnancy. This medication is not indicated for use in women.
