Tropicamide

Tropicamide is anticholinergic agent, used to induce mydriasis (dilate the pupil) and cycloplegia in opthalmologic practice, or to treat certain eye conditions.

Characteristics
belongs to Tertiary Amine. It belongs to Cholinergic muscarinic antagonist pharmacological group on the basis of mechanism of action and also classified in Opthalmic Agent, Mydriatic pharmacological group.The Molecular Weight of Tropicamide is 284.40.
Contraindications
Tropicamide is contraindicated in conditions like Glucoma.
Effects
The severe or irreversible adverse effects of Tropicamide, which give rise to further complications include Increased IOP (intraocular pressure).The symptomatic adverse reactions produced by Tropicamide are more or less tolerable and if they become severe, they can be treated symptomatically, these include Headache, Drowsiness, Blurred vision, Dermatitis, Eczematous rash, Xerostomia.
Indications
Tropicamide is primarily indicated in conditions like Duodenal ulcer associated with h. Pylori, Iridocyclitis, Iritis, Keratosis, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Surgery.
